What is IMAP?
IMAP is an integrated martial art form that has embraced a functionalist ideology of practicality, efficiency, effectiveness, and is accepting of technique variations from around the world. Although IMAP uses a spectrum of techniques and movements, it is most akin - in philosophy and tactic - to the Israeli Martial Arts, however, you will see more kick variation. IMAP is designed to evolve and change to situations and need. If youare a grappler, there will be a grappling flavor to your IMAP, if you are a striker, it will take on that emphasis, if you are good with re-direction and take downs, IMAP will adjust to your skill sets. As a Law Enforcement Officer(LEO), I quickly realized that my formal Karate and Tae Kwon Do training wasnot enough to deal with all close quarter fighting situations, and so the IMAP evolution began. The core philosophy of IMAP is to avoid confrontation, however, when confrontation is unavoidable, an IMAP practitioner will deal with the threat efficiently and effectively, either by creating an opportunity for escape, or defending against the attack and disabling the attacker.
IMAP Concept:
It has been my personal experience, that a street fight can take any form, whether it's a multiple attacker, ground fighting, weapon attack, or stand up situation, the IMAP practitioner needs to have practical knowledge of body biomechanics, timing, judgment of distance, and appropriate countering techniques, in order to avoid, defend, and engage the attacker. IMAP incorporates off balancing and take down techniques, as well as various redirection, joint locking, head control, trapping, blocking, striking and disarm techniques. The concept and philosophy of IMAP is to avoid conflict, but if a conflict is unavoidable, one needs to Assess the situation and surroundings, Identify the threat, and Respond to the threat (AIR). Once the IMAP practitioner determines that engaging a threat is unavoidable, the intentis to disable the threat as quickly as possible, creating an opportunity forescape. The longer a physical conflict is allowed to continue, the greater the chance for injury; so, IMAP uses an integration of effective techniques to defend against and disable a physical threat as efficiently as possible.
